The visual and performing arts curriculum at The Stony Brook School is based on two essential truths:

first, that the creation process enables students to notice and explore the richness and complexity that can be found in the everyday world around them; and

      second
, that the language of art provides a unique means for students to articulate and communicate the discoveries made during that exploration.

The Stony Brook School requires the completion of a minimum of one credit in the arts for graduation. Students are encouraged to participate in various co-curricular activities involving the arts: music programs such as concert choir, chamber singers, chorus, instrumental ensemble, chamber orchestra, and instrumental and voice lessons; visual arts programs including drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, and art gallery openings and exhibitions; and a major theatrical production put on each year by the School’s Theatrical Arts Society (TAS).
All arts programs are held in Carson Auditorium, a dedicated arts facility complete with a choir rehearsal room, theatre, spacious art studios, art gallery, and six individual music practice rooms.

The passion and creativity with which our students reflect upon and express the human condition never ceases to amaze and inspire us.

Please be in touch with any questions about visual arttheatre and music programs at The Stony Brook School.
